Life at Hodgson
Hodgson provides students and staff with
the latest and the best in learning and teaching facilities. The
school boasts a state-of-the-art Learning Centre. Underneath its
domed roof, learning can take place in many different ways. This
vast space can accommodate three classes at once, all involved in
different activities. It houses the school library and a suite of
networked computers.
Improvements are being made on a continual basis to the school’s
buildings and facilities. Among the recent works carried out have
been revamps to science laboratories and the school kitchens and
dining rooms, a new Learning Support Suite and Applied Learning
Centre and extensive renovations to the boys’ and girls’ toilet
facilities. Refurbishments have also been made to our ICT suites,
and interactive whiteboards installed in nearly all of our
classrooms to reflect our drive to be at the forefront of new
technological advances in teaching and learning. Many classrooms
have access to computers on wheels (COWs).
Over the past year, refurbishments have been made to the school
assembly hall and our Design Technology workshops, and further works
are planned to reflect the need to embrace new technology. The
school is currently formulating exciting plans for a proposed
state-of-the-art refurbishment of its sports hall complex.
Quality Assurance
There
are strict self-evaluation procedures in place to ensure that the
teaching delivered at the school is of the highest quality.
Self-evaluation is rigorous and comprehensive, which helps the
school guarantee that your son or daughter receives the best
education possible. Areas of strength and success are regularly
highlighted within departments and this good practice disseminated
into other areas. Hodgson is committed to ‘Learning for the Future’
– teachers as well as staff – to improve attainment across the
board.
An innovative Distributed Leadership model is used at Hodgson, which
has three distinct tiers of management – the Strategic Leadership
Team, Operational Leadership Team and Emergent Leadership Team. This
combination ensures a well-ordered and managed organisation.
The school governors have a general responsibility for the conduct
of the school, which includes responsibility for the curriculum and
the school’s ethos. They also manage the school budget. Governors
have a four-year term of office, so vacancies are filled on an
ongoing basis. At Hodgson, the governors are elected by the Local
Authority, parents, staff and the community.
